The Level 3 Award in Safe Administration of Life-Saving Medication is a regulated qualification that equips healthcare and emergency responders with the knowledge and confidence to safely administer key lifesaving medications in urgent and emergency situations. This training focuses on the legal, clinical, and practical aspects of medication use under appropriate clinical governance and is suitable for professionals who are required to give medication as part of their role — typically following prehospital care training such as FREC 4.
Understand relevant legislation, guidelines, policies and protocols for safe medication administration
Identify the role and responsibilities of a medic administering lifesaving drugs
Recognise common types of lifesaving medication used in prehospital and emergency care (such as adrenaline, aspirin, glucogel, naloxone, salbutamol and more)
Assess a patient’s condition to determine appropriate medication choice
Safely administer lifesaving medication using correct techniques
Monitor, evaluate and review the patient’s response after medication delivery
Qualification: Level 3 Award in Safe Administration of Life-Saving Medication (RQF) – Qualsafe framework
Duration: Typically 2 days of classroom delivery plus associated self-study
Assessment: Combination of practical skills assessments and theory (workbook or written assessment)
Entry Requirements: Usually requires learners to be 18+, employed by a registered organisation and to have previously completed an appropriate prehospital care qualification (such as FREC 4)
Certification: Qualification demonstrates competence in safe medication administration within the scope determined by your organisation and clinical governance
